no window screen can guarantee the safety of your child or pet
It seems like a new, tragic story of a child falling from a window appears on the news almost daily. As a window screen manufacturer, I am passionate about window safety. Please take a minute to watch this brief video and share it with anyone you know who has children or pets at home. It just might save a life.
-Joe Altieri, Inventor & CEO, FlexScreen
"Never depend on screens to keep children from falling out of windows."
- Consumer Product Safety Commission
"Beware! Window screens may give you a false sense of security, but they do not prevent falls."
- UPMC Children’s Hospital
"Don't rely on window screens to prevent kids or pets from falling. Window or sliding door screens are designed to keep pests out, not kids in."
- National Safety Council
One of the best and safest ways to vent fresh air into your home AND keep children and pets safe is to have double-hung windows with full screens and only open the top portion of the window.
Tips On How to Avoid Falls From Inside
• Avoid placing furniture or any objects kids or pets can climb on near open windows.
• Install window guards or stops designed to limit windows from opening more than 4 inches.
• Always instruct kids on the dangers of open windows.
• Shrubs, soft edging, or other appropriate landscaping around the outside can help blunt the impact if a fall occurs.
