no window screen can guarantee the safety of your child or pet

It seems like a new, tragic story of a child falling from a window appears on the news almost daily. As a window screen manufacturer, we at FlexScreen are passionate about window safety. Please take a minute to watch this brief video citing the National Safety Council, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the leading pediatric hospital in the country, all warning of the common but deadly misconception that window screens equal safety. I hope you'll share it with anyone you know who has children or pets at home. It just might save a life.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY:

"Never depend on screens to keep children from falling out of windows."

- Consumer Product Safety Commission

"Beware! Window screens may give you a false sense of security, but they do not prevent falls."

- UPMC Children’s Hospital

"Don't rely on window screens to prevent kids or pets from falling. Window or sliding door screens are designed to keep pests out, not kids in."

- National Safety Council

One of the best and safest ways to vent fresh air into your home AND keep children and pets safe is to have double-hung windows with full screens and only open the top portion of the window.

SAFETY TIPS ON AVOIDING FALLS

• Avoid placing furniture or any objects kids or pets can climb on near open windows.

• Install window guards or stops designed to limit windows from opening more than 4 inches.

• Always instruct kids on the dangers of open windows.

• Shrubs, soft edging, or other appropriate landscaping around the outside can help blunt the impact if a fall occurs.
